5 Ways to Rethink Your Self-Care Routine

There are countless ways to make self-care a priority, especially when we’re in the middle of a pandemic that isn’t budging anytime soon.

Taking time out of your day or week for self-care can contribute to a calmer demeanor, provide a positive outlook on life, and assist with any other emotional issues.

Sometimes we have self-care routines in place, but don’t realize these routines need to be adjusted as we encounter changes in our lives.

Here are a few ways to keep self-care fresh and compelling.

1. Take Steps to Avoid Burnout

Burnout catches up to us all, no matter what role you play in life. Many of us are working from home, kids included, which means more responsibility throughout the day.

It’s tempting to try to power through as much work as possible. While this is a thought in the right direction, you need to make sure you’re taking breaks between assignments, so you don’t experience burnout.

Many find it helpful to schedule self-care time in their calendar and stick to it, even if it’s 15 minutes a day. This breaks up the monotony and allows you to focus your thoughts on something equally important as your daily to-do list—YOU.

You can also avoid burnout by switching up the scenery. That is if your day to day affords you the luxury. If this isn’t possible, try to find ways to switch up the view at home by jazzing up your patio or balcony and working out in the fresh air.

Try giving your designated workspace a boost by adding fresh flowers, buying some organization storage, an aromatherapy diffuser, or anything else that boosts your mood while you’re working.

2. Stay Healthy

It seems some of us naturally take to the idea of working out, while others go through stints of working out and eating healthily. We urge everyone to take the necessary steps to embrace a healthy lifestyle, even if it’s small steps building up to more significant changes you’re looking to make.

It’s ideal to get the blood flowing for at least 30 minutes every day. Some people get too hung up on the idea of walking or running as their source of cardio. While they are both great options, it doesn’t mesh with everyone’s ideal workout routine.

Ultimately, it’s essential to find some type of workout that provides you with the motivation needed to get up and get going. This can be as simple as jumping rope or turning some music on and dancing for 20-30 minutes.

If you have kids, you can turn on some family-friendly music and let the whole family jump around too—if you want to let the entire family in on this round of self-care.

Once you get going, you’ll see how much better the body and mind feel when releasing toxins.

3. Enhance Your Meditation Techniques

There are 23 different types of meditation to choose from if you want to introduce this practice into your life. Meditation boats all kinds of benefits, including lowering stress and anxiety, fighting fatigue, making you more present and mindful of the things you do, enhancing self-esteem, and much more.

Most people who are starting out with meditation like to employ mindfulness meditation techniques because it only requires you to scan your body while taking how each and every part of your body feels.

It’s not only in the traditional sense of meditation, though. You can use proactive mindfulness throughout the day by being aware of how you think, what you see, hear, etc.

If you’re already deep into your own meditation process, you can enhance your routine by pairing it with CBD. There are many ways to achieve this because there are various products you can use.

Some prefer the traditional method of CBD tincture oils, but many have taken to CBD gummies. Sure, CBD edibles used to have a bad wrap for tasting bad, but things have changed tremendously over the years.

Thankfully CBD gummies come in a ton of flavors these days, and this provides a whole new layer of convenience and ease. At the end of the day, if it tastes good, you’ll look forward to taking it. It also promotes awareness, focus, and concentration. All of this counts when you’re trying to find your balance.

CBD and meditation go hand in hand because CBD has a unique way of working within the body and produces the calming foundation needed for the most beneficial mediation techniques.

4. Explore a New Hobby

Hobbies are fun, but the only downside is we tend to neglect our hobbies when we get busy.

It makes sense because they are hobbies, right?

Anyhow, if you’re looking for something new to do, something that speaks to you in the sense of self-care, think about something you used to love to do, or something you’ve been dying to pick up in your spare time.

Picking up a hobby provides a fresh outlook on life, working in a way to remind you the world is full of possibilities, waiting for you to explore them. Some popular options include painting, drawing, writing, gardening, hiking, along with many others.

It’s all about embracing something that puts a smile on your face, especially after a long day.

5. Moving Forward—Keep Things in Perspective

Sure, we’ve all heard we need to make self-care a priority, and while this is true, there is something else equally important—perspective.

When you set aside time for yourself, make sure you’re checking in with yourself and keeping all the different aspects of your life in perspective. Some things get blown out of proportion because we’re hyper focused on them.

This can quickly happen in times like these where social gatherings are at an all-time low, and we have more time than we need to think…think about everything.

Take time for yourself, focus on yourself, and keep it all in perspective. You need time to embrace yourself and love yourself. Once you make this practice commonplace, you’ll see how this love overflows into other areas of your life.
