Let’s face it—there are tons of health products on the market these days that claim to have incredible medicinal properties. Unfortunately, many of them are just out there to make money and don’t have the consumer’s best interest in mind.
However, there is some good news!
Products like CBD and kratom may actually be able to deliver on some of these health benefits.
Never heard of CBD or kratom? Or have you heard of them, but have no idea the differences between CBD vs. kratom?
No problem. Keep reading to learn about CBD, kratom, and the differences between the two.
CBD
CBD, short for cannabidiol, is a chemical naturally occurring in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC (the other main component of the cannabis plant), there are no psychoactive effects of CBD. So, CBD will not make a person feel “high.”
Instead, CBD is used for medicinal purposes.
CBD can be used to manage pain, reduce inflammation, and has even been used to reduce the symptoms of epilepsy. CBD is also used to reduce anxiety and depression.
CBD comes in different forms. You can purchase CBD as edibles or tinctures which you consume, or you can buy it in oils or lotions that can be directly applied to the skin.
CBD can be purchased online or in stores.
Kratom
Kratom is a tree commonly found in southeast Asia. The leaves of the kratom tree have recently started to be used for medicinal purposes.
People may take red Bali kratom capsules for anxiety, depression, or pain management.
Kratom is usually found in a powder form or as a pill. The powder can be mixed into foods or beverages for ingestion.

CBD vs. Kratom
There are a few important distinguishing features between CBD and kratom, even though they are often marketed for the same usage.
- Kratom Can Be Used to Help Opioid Addiction
Unlike CBD, kratom is used to help opioid addicts reduce their dependency.
Because it affects the same part of the brain, kratom may be a harm reduction solution to the opioid crisis.
- CBD Is Legal
As of 2018, the use and sale of CBD are legal. Kratom is classified as an herbal supplement, therefore it is not as closely regulated as other medicines.
Kratom is still being investigated by groups like the Federal Drug Administration to determine its effectiveness and safety.
- Side Effects
CBD has very limited side effects and is non-addictive. There have been instances of people reporting dry mouth or drowsiness from CBD, but nothing more severe.
Kratom has not been studied as much as CBD, but there may be some more harmful side effects such as liver toxicity or seizures.
The Future of CBD and Kratom
Both of these herbal remedies have gotten a lot of attention in the past few years, and research is still being done.
If you have additional questions about CBD vs. kratom, or the use of either product, you should consult a medical professional.
