How Do Marine LPG Gas Boilers Work ?

Suppose you are the type of person that loves the sea and you got yourself a boat but it lacks some modern, cheap to run heating and cooling system like a marine LPG boiler. But rather it has an old oil boiler system. What do you do? Well, switch to LPG of course. LPG boilers are an option if your boat uses an inefficient and costly system. You could go for an oil boiler but LPG is a much greener and cleaner option for the environment.

So how do LPG boilers work?

LPG boilers work exactly the same as natural gas boilers, the only difference is, natural gas boilers work at 20mb pressure whereas LPG boilers work at 37mb pressure. Most boiler manufactories produce LPG boilers or have a kit to convert their boilers over to LPG. The kit normally consists of a set of gas jets for the burners and a label that has to be fixed to the boiler explaining that the boiler has been converted to LPG.

Also if you happen to live in a mobile home where natural gas is not yet connected but would like gas central heating then LPG is the best option. With LPG you have the option of having a tank fitted in your boat or maybe a motorhome. In this case, installing medium size storage cylinders will be the best option. With the cylinders, you can either have two or four cylinders, fitted and it also depends on the gas demand from your appliances.

If you are interested in having an LPG boiler fitted then you need to contact your local gas safe registered boiler engineer who can advise you on what’s best for you and your property. He will be able to advise you on what type of LPG storage option is best for you.

NOTE! DYI enthusiast, fitting an LPG gas boiler by yourself is a bad idea and is not as simple as it sounds or looks on TV or manual, there are many things that have to be checked out first. The gas supply may need to be updated to a larger size. Gas is highly flammable and in the wrong hands can cause disaster. This is why only certified gas engineers.

Each Marine LPG boiler is supplied with a benchmark book that has to be filled in by the engineer, it has to be signed and dated. Without these details most boiler manufacturers will void the warranty should you ever need to call them in.
