If anyone uses a rope like this, it means that he is a pro. Floyd does not do simple jump ropes. He performs various tricks as well. No wonder he needs a separate room for jump rope!
Why Floyd’s jump rope?
Preparing yourself to fight some of the toughest and world class boxers is not an easy thing. You need to be in your best shape to defeat them because the other person is going to hit you and you will do the same thing as well.
To develop and enhance such skills, you need to jump rope. Not only it increases stamina but for boxers, it also helps in increasing speed, quickness, confidence and endurance.
Here are three reasons on why you should also use Floyd’s jump rope:
Footwork:
Jumping rope is essential for boxers because it increases the one thing that is constantly used in a boxing ring, and that is your foot work. If your foot work is excellent, you will be faster than your opponent and you will be able to throw clean and strong punches.
It will also help you in avoiding punches from your opponent. Jump roping at a very fast rate will help you to build necessary confidence required to more your feet fast as you are throwing a nice jab.
If you want to become one of the world’s greatest boxer, then trust me, foot work is essential for you. The reason why Floyd was able to defeat his opponents was because he was faster than them, and how did he become faster? By jump roping.
Reaction time:
If you jump rope regularly, it will increase your reaction time. As you are jump roping, at some point, you will be able to enhance some abilities such as turning your wrists, hopping over and over and doing it constantly for as long as you can.
This will help you in making faster movements and throw hard punches while you remain in balance. If your feet are not placed rightly, then your punches will lack strength and you will break your balance.
Jumping rope also increases your timing, and experts say that if your timing is perfect, you can deliver a perfect punch with force.
Condition for success:
Jumping rope increases stamina just like running, jogging and various exercises. But, there is one thing which only jump rope can do and other exercises cannot, that is activating type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers.
When you jump rope, you exercise and train both, type 1 and type 2 muscle fibers and this helps you to develop great endurance and a long lasting stamina. These two things are specially required to be a great boxer!
How can you be a pro in jump roping like Floyd?
There are around four techniques. If you practice them daily, you will be a pro in no time! These four techniques are:
Under leg hand press:
In this technique, you don’t have to jump. You just have to lift your one leg up, change the jump rope from one hand to another and then move on to the next leg and repeat the same procedure.
Crossover:
You need an excellent synchronization and technique to do a nice cross over. All you need to is slightly bend over or lean forward while making your hands cross each other.
One thing you need to keep in mind is that; your hand must pass the elbows or otherwise, you will break your balance.
Alternate footsteps:
This is one of the simplest technique. All you need to do is jump rope like you normally do but instead of jumping, you are running at the same place.
Once you have noted down the rhythm, you can increase the pace.
Side to side:
This is a bit complicated but once you get a hold of it, you are good to go. All you need to do is jump rope like you normally do. Instead of jumping, move your feet side to side.
Remember to keep your torso straight and condition it to move with your feet. Make sure that by moving your feet side to side, you don’t twist your body.
Once you get a hold of it, increase the distance from side to side. This will make your workout even more intense.
Jump roping like a pro takes time but once you start doing it, there’s no coming back. Don’t just think that I want to jump rope like Floyd in the next two or three months.
